Coin collecting in Mysore, R.P.Jackson 1889
« on: December 31, 2017, 02:03:25 PM »
I came across this interesting link on a Fb coin forum,   the first two pages describe Major R.P.Jackson being sent by the Maharaja to catalogue the coins of Mysore.

Traveling by dogcart having posted horses in advance and having sent on tents and supplies by bullock cart he wandered to remote villages, asking to see any old coins they might have and he had coins brought to him by the bagful until the locals got wise..................

Very interesting catalogue part. Thank you for that link, capn.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
