Dutch government considers to stop issuing collectors coins
« on: September 06, 2018, 11:43:37 AM »
The Dutch government is considering to change its strategy to collectors coins. Because of the existing minting contract such change can only be made from 2020. One of the things they are considering is to stop issuing collectors coins. This as the Dutch government currently looses money on the production of these pieces. Furthermore they have considered to stop issuing them at face value and instead issue them for 7.50 euros. The Ministry of Finance thinks the increased price will not cause a significant decrease in the number of coins sold (approx. -14%).

It's clearly time either to expel these incompetents from the euro zone or else to give them the ultra-harsh Greek treatment.  >:(

Most euro countries issue their collector coins at prices above face value, nothing wrong with that (see the attached image from here). Hard to imagine the mint would stop making them, so a surcharge is more likely. The KNM's policy of issuing hardly any commemorative €2 coins may make it easier for them to sell collector coins ...

The Royal Dutch Mint (KNM) very much wants to issue 2 euro commemorative coins (to the extent where they are getting desperate) but the Ministry of Finance for whichever reason refuses to issue such coins.

Typical. The Dutch hate the Hollanders, and both of them hate the Netherlanders. So the three tribes fight each other and they can't get anything done. You'll end up with civil war in that country. It'll be the next Yugoslavia - just mark my words.   :-\
