Michael Rizzello was made an Associate of the Royal Society of British Sculptors (RBS) in 1955, and a Fellow in 1961, the year he won the Sir Otto Beit Medal for Sculpture, and served an unprecedented term of two five-year periods as RBS president, from 1976 to 1986. He was also President of the Society of Portrait Sculptors and a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers. He died in September 2004.

That devil's head he is working on looks too much like a self-portrait to be a coincidence. Fun.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

I can see the resemblance, though Mr Rizzello didn't own a beard. His numismatic portraiture was very good, and I like the detail of his wildlife too.

I like him as a sculptor and medallist.

A particular favourite is his 25th Anniversary of the Inauguration of the Prince of Wales.

Also the 900th anniversary of the founding of Westminster Abbey.
