AE 24 of Roman Legion?
« on: December 02, 2017, 03:03:45 PM »
5.56 g, 23.8x25 mm.
Two c/m on left side - "VIII" [Legion].
C/m on right side - Signum.
I can't find the coin in Internet.
Was it published somewhere?

Third c/m on left side - may be "L...G" - Legion?

During first centuries AD there was a lot of contemporary imitation plus countermarking of these imitates on the Balkans next to the borders of the Roman empire.
As quality was poor and usage long we often can´t identify the issuing city, emperor or moneyer properly now.

Maybe this is such a `barbarous`issue.

Many known legionary c/m are poor & simple, have "barbarous" look.

Sure - life and it´s common usage is (`usually´) very simple and uncomplicated / without culture.

But we have a chance to change this.

I agree with you, dear Arminius.

But concerning this coin - my atribution looks like more adequate.
