messerschmitt hitler token
« on: November 18, 2017, 04:28:40 PM »
It bothers me that I see these all over the Internet, but only on 'coins for sale' sites, nothing with strong numismatic backing. Are these simply modern souvenirs or novelty items? Not really produced by the Third Reich in the mid 1940s. Am I correct, or am I missing something?

They sell in the neighborhood of $15 to $20 US dollars.

Nothing more than (very) bad modern fantasies.

One seller who has many of these for sale describes these as "Adolf Hitler Luftwaffe war planes silver plated coin lot of 4  Postwar copies"

Here are four types that he has for sale.

Thanks. It's always good to check with the experts! There's also a '5 mark' with a tank. Maybe many more. This one, however, is a genuine propaganda medal, produced in 1933. Agree?

I am no expert on these and would be hesitant to say either way!

There is a gold plated example on eBay at present for example...

Sorry, no. Hitler appeared on stamps but never on coins. I'm not even sure that I've seen any instances of him depicted on a medal.

Certainly nothing original.
Even the legend of the "propaganda medal" is in bad German and doesn't make much sense.

At least one medal does exist with his portrait, it is a real one and not rare. But it is not a coin-like medal, it is a rectangular one, uniface, and I think it is quite big, probably for being put on walls.

Yes, I know of this but do not regard it as a medal. Thank you.

Copies and at least, for the 1st coin, a "wrong copy"  ::) , despite of the legend,  it isn't a Heinkel but a Focke Wulf 187 ...

There are quite a few -original- medals and tokens depicting Hitler. There even is a catalog of these:
Colbert and Hyder, Medallic Portraits of Adolf Hitler, 1981, HB, 160 pages. It was published by The Token and Medal Society in 1981.

Now somewhat expensive.

I tracked this mention down from coin week and a inside view on Google images.
