Interesting design.

Already available for pre-order from one dealer:

https://www.lpm.hk/2018-1-oz-britain-two-dragons-999-silver-coin-bu.html

ēMinted to bullion standard

and with the pricing, this appears to be a bullion issue.

Yes, the upper dragon is Asian, the lower one European. I presume the piece is aimed at the Asian speculative metal market.

My point (though I didn't express it very well at all) was that Wales is part of the UK and the Chinese dragon has absolutely nothing to do with the UK.

Yes, aimed at the Asian market, it's like San Marino doing a Shakespeare coin. Just absurd really from the perspective that coins are supposed to represent the country that issues them

... and the Royal Mint did make a Year of the Dog bullion coin too. :) Guess the point is that, like other mints, they have issued pieces for the Chinese market before. And since there already is a Welsh dragon in the Queen's Beasts series, they will apparently add a Welsh-Chinese design.

People who would like to know the mintage figure of the 2018-dated Newton 50p that was only available from the Royal Mint Experience can send me a PM.

Only a very limited amount -if any- of the RAF 2 pounds coins will be brought into circulation. The Royal Mint has taken the special RAF coin hunt folders out of sale as people will not be able to fill them.

Thanks for that, eurocoin.  Iíve pre-ordered them from Change Checker/Westminster.  To be honest Iíve given up on getting any new 50p or £2 commemorative from circulation!

Do we know roughly when the coins in this £2 coin series will be made available?  Apologies if youíve posted this info further up the thread as I havenít checked all of it.

Any idea why?

Moreover, can these coins still be considered ''circulation commemoratives'' under these circumstances?

Any idea why?

No demand from the cash centres for 2 pounds coins. They expect that will not change any time soon. Since the demonetization of the round pound, people have revived old saving jars to spent the round pounds in time and have at the same time also spent or banked all of their other contents which has caused an enormous increase in the number of old coins suddenly returning into circulation. Of other denominations there are currently enormous stocks too because of this.

Moreover, can these coins still be considered ''circulation commemoratives'' under these circumstances?

For me from the moment a certain amount of a commemorative was brought into circulation through the general procedure (by the cash centres) it is a circulating commemorative. It remains to be seen if that will happen with the RAF coins.
