After a way too long struggle due to problems with Flickr and the highly annoying image size limit on here, finally:

It was found in circulation in South Wales. Design by Dave Knapton.

In circulation?  I've not seen the collector issues yet!  How come it's been issued to circulation first?  Or, if it's been found in South Wales, has that one managed to escape from the Royal Mint?

The mint has mistakenly released it into circulation. There may be more of these in circulation.

Interesting.  It's not a bad design.  There are supposed to be two aren't there?  Do you know when the collector versions might be issued?  (I don't think that info is in an earlier post but I could be wrong...)

Something similar has in the past happened in the Netherlands and last year with one of the Penguin coins of which the design had not yet been unveiled being found in circulation in the UK. Yes there will be 2 Paddington Bear 50p coins. The collectors versions of at least 1 of these Padington coins are sheduled to be released in June according to a concept issuance program that a Royal Mint employee last year posted on his personal Facebook profile. Exact date of issuance is unknown.

Michael Bond died 27 June last year, so I reckon the coins will be released on Monday the 25th. That is only speculation though!!!!  :)

The mint has threatened the person who found the coin that they will take legal action against her if she does not delete the images, which she has now done. Very bad.

That's rather naive of them, particularly as the image will have been copied and reproduced elsewhere (as indeed it has been on this forum).  It's her photo, and there's no law against posting an image of a coin.

It all depends on how she acquired the coin ;)
always willing to trade modern UK coins for modern coins from elsewhere....

Both the Royal Mint and Change Checker have announced on Facebook about the Paddington coin being seen.  They can't post a photo of course, but eurocoin provided the exclusive on here!

Unlikely it was smuggled out of the Royal Mint.  And if it had, surely no one would be stupid enough to put it into circulation.  I doubt she works there herself, as unless it was posted anonymously, her job would be at stake.  It must be a genuine error by the Mint, but I wonder how many have been issued.

One is on eBay at the moment. Bidding is up to £133!! :o

If it would be a distribution mistake by the UK mint, why can they hold a private person, unconnected by the mint, responsible? Unless something irregular happened, the mint is responsible for its own mistakes. Surely, the mint wouldn't resort to autocratic bullying, would it?

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

People are just so impatient aren't they?  Wait a few weeks and Westminster will be selling them for around the £5 mark (or £10 from the Royal Mint).

It was possibly an empty threat to try and cover their embarrassment.  They were relying on scare tactics and it clearly worked, but as it's now on eBay you have to wonder just how naive the Mint are.  I wouldn't have taken such a threat seriously but clearly she did.

Scrolling down comments on both Change Checker and Royal Mint's Facebook posts reveals users have posted a photo of it in each.  Makes a complete mockery of both as they say "we can't bring you a photo yet".  ;D
