Central Bank of Honduras (BCH) could Replace one and two Lempiras Bills with Coins.
24 September 2019
The Central Bank of Honduras is mulling about the possibility of replacing the one and two Lempiras bills with coins. These coins are usually made of zinc and copper alloys for durability and to reduce manufacturing costs.
Researchers concluded that a banknote lasts an average of 2.5 years, while coins have a life of 12 to 15 years. Honduras’ national currency is minted in England, France, and the Netherlands through international public tenders.
The minting of the 50 centavos coin currently costs 65 centavos.
