Much to the dislike of the local population, it has emerged that Zimbabwe is going to issue new 50 cent bond coins. According to a leaked document, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has last week bought 6,048,000 new pieces from the South African Mint.

Cost of €53.73 per 1000 looks reasonable. Six million ain't a lot, but I understand the reluctance of the locals as well as the desire to get back to having their own money. My guess is the latter is not possible until Mugabe has at last left the political scene and his cronies are weeded out of the government.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

The new 50 cent bond coins have now been issued, they are dated 2017. The date is an important part of the design on the bond coins.
