Sneak peek Isle of Man's issuance program end 2017/2018
« on: September 19, 2017, 07:26:40 PM »
Later this year the Isle of Man will be issuing a 5 pounds coin for Christmas. In contrary to previous years, the island won't issue a 50p coin for this event. The coin will have "Peace" as theme and the design will be distinctly Manx. After it had been approved by the local treasury, it has recently been sent to The Queen for approval.

In 2018, the Isle of Man is planning to issue one or more coins for the TT. The government is currently working with Tower Mint on the concept(s) of the design(s). In contrary to this year, next year's coin(s) will be available way before the TT takes place.

Below the further 7 coins in the series. A limited amount of the coins will be put into circulation on the island (although the only pieces that have so far been found in circulation were found in the UK  ::)).

What the minted coins look like can be seen below. Furthermore there is a quality issue as a part of the mintage has 'clouding' on the left side of the design (see image to the right):

The Manx Christmas 5 pound coin will soon be unveiled. We already knew its central theme will be peace. I have now also been informed it will depict a peace dove and the Manx words Nollick Ghennal (Merry Christmas) and Shee dy row er y thalloo (Peace on Earth).

I've started collecting coins from crown dependencies,
and am wondering who mints these coins? I know it used
to be Pobjoy and Tower mint, but some coins don't appear
anywhere except Westminster and Coin Portfolio. For example
the silver proof IOM 2017 one pound coin and House Of Windsor
piedfort.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Colin.

Itís still Tower Mint, Col1n666, at least for now.  Pobjoy did have the contract for years and then Tower won it.  Itís a ten-year contract that commenced April 2017.  See http://www.islandstampsandcoins.co.uk/blog/the-tower-mint.html

Thanks Alan. It's strange that Tower Mint's website hasn't been updated in so long.
