Try a PM to THCoins, Gérard. He works miracles with Kufic script.

Hi Gerard,

Sorry no miracles from me. Can read some Kufic, but still need nearly complete legends and good photos to do so.

This Dirham is fairly generic in its style. Based on style alone it is not possible to link it directly to some time and place. It is not the standard Ummayad or Abbasid type. Could be Spain, could also be more in the direction of central Asia. Also the text is not very helpfull, as it is also mainly standard formulae.

In the top picture the center reads : "La illah illa  / Allah wahadu / la sherika lahu"
In the bottom picture it is "Adl (just) / Muhammad / rasul / Allah".  In the bottom line is possibly the name of the Caliph. This may help in dating the coin. But i can not give a definite reliable reading. (Many names are quite similar)

To help in attribution one searches the margin text for phrases like "Bism Allah zarb Haza al Dirham" (This coin was struck in the name of Allah) which is followed by the mintname. Or the word "Sanat" (in the year) which is followed by the date.
But i can not make out both from the fragments visible on your coin.
