I've had this coin for some time which was attributed by Frank on Zeno as that of Muhammad Shah. I had been puzzled by the mint mark on the coin and though the obverse clearly read Muhammad Shah, I had all along been attibuting it to Ahmed Shah Bahadur since the mint mark in the Seen of the Julus is of the type seen only during later reigns - Ahmed Shah and Shah Jahan III. The mark on the coins of Muhammad Shah are different.

It's unfortunate the  date is not fully visible as it would need to be 1161 as the year Muhammad Shah died and Ahmad ascended the throne.  but then the reverse would have the RY as Ahad if it was a mule with Ahmad shahs first year

The mint mark commonly found on the coins of Muhammad Shah is as per the picture below.

On the coins of Ahmed Shah Bahadur the mint mark is tweaked.

Quite convincing documentation, Amit. This would be a very helpful coin for further study of mint signs. A mule of this kind makes perfect sense, as Ahmed Shah succeeded Muhammad Shah in 1161 and Surat struck coins for both, so both dies were available at the same time and place. Delighted you saw what was going on on this coin. I think I speak for Jan also by encouraging you to do a write-up for JONS.
