$1 but 1R - denominations that show currency symbol last

It's a curious fact that the symbol for the main currency unit appears before the numerals, e.g. $1 and not 1$, whereas the symbol for the sub-units appears last: 25c. However, this is not always the case.







These South African bullion coins - 1 and 2 rand - do not follow the expected pattern. Do you know of any similar coins?

Portugal has a strange way of showing its escudos sign: 2$50 and 10$00.
