There is a medal https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medal_%E2%80%9EZa_udzia%C5%82_w_wojnie_obronnej_1939%E2%80%9D
But this piece is small - 2.79 g, 17.2 mm & I can't find anu traces of hanging eye on it.
What is it?

I asked our member ford.ka, who is Polish but currently on holidays. His reaction:

This is a fairly common and cheap medal given to all those who participated in the September campaign of 1939:  - the text is "For participation in the defensive war - Fatherland". Lots available on the Internet. My guess is that it was produced in hundreds of thousands as the number of those who could apply was quite big. It used to have a loop on top but one of its previous owners must have cut it off.

Are you sure there is no trace of filing on the edge?

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
