A disappointing purchase
« on: August 18, 2017, 02:41:14 AM »
I bought this token from eBay.
I thought there was a chance it was a variation on these tokens I posted a long time ago.

Some of the early Austrian Mint tokens do have a blank reverse and I thought this one possible but I was suspicious.
I bought it anyway, to weigh it, on the off chance it might be original. Always open to learn more.

Unfortunately, it turns out to be very thin and weighs 3.76g. An original should weigh 5.43g +/-.

Obviously, the reverse image has been milled or sanded off.

This one might be a dead end but the quest always continues.  :)

Did you ask the seller for the weight of the token?

Peter
An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

No, as I have a use for it anyway. What is disappointing is that I didn't discover a new piece of information, not that I acquired the piece.
