New Commemorative: Unissued: Gulzari Lal Nanda

A friend of mine asked me the other day about Sri Gulzarilal Nanda coins that were approved to be minted in 1999.

As per the press release, a commemorative stamp was also supposed to be released and was indeed released by India Post in 1999. So what went wrong with the coin?

Also the Reserve Bank of India reportedly in their 'Statement of Commemorative Coins for General Circulation' reported the following coin as circulating commemorative strikes

- 5 Paise 1980 Rural Women's Advancement
- 10 Paise 1983 World Food Day
- 1 Rupee 1986 Fisheries (World Food Day) [reportedly minted during 1988/89]

I am stumped.

I understand that there were plans to issue commemorative coins on 100th Anniversary of late Prime Minister Guljari Lal Nanda. As per some official documents, the coins were to be issued on 4th July 1999 at Kurushetra. Only person has seen these coins. However, I have never heard about these coins. What do you think

I think GOI has scraped   to issue this planned  coin.

No hope in future.

Does a stopgap PM deserves the coins? His only claim to the fame is that he was a caretaker PM.

I agree...there are still freedom fighters such as Abdul Kalam, Annie Besant, Sarojini Naidu and others in post independent India such as Vikram Sarabhai who are still in line for want of a core support base....and various important events too!
