San Marino 2018: Tintoretto
« on: July 25, 2017, 01:34:15 PM »
In 2018, San Marino is going to issue a 2 euro commemorative coin to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the birth of Italian painter Tintoretto. As so often, there does not appear to be any link to San Marino.

Thanks for the info! As I wrote elsewhere before, I do not see any problem with coins from San Marino that honor somebody or something from "the neighborhood". Even more so when it comes to people/events from before there was a united Italy. Tintoretto was a Venetian artist, and Venice did not join Italy until the mid-1860s. :)

Bottom line for me: Unfortunately those 2 commems cannot be had at face, but that applies to all four non-EU euro countries (and sometimes to others too). Of course I am not forced to buy this issue, so it depends on whether I will find the design attractive ...
