Booking ofAnnadurai coins opens at Kolkata from tomorrow. The price of proof set is Rs2740 and Unc set Rs2310 (very very high)

A 5 Rupee coin was listed on Ebay, in UNC style. I could purchase this coin from Ebay. A similar coin was listed on Ebay last week for Homi Bhabha.

When I contacted the dealer, he told me that these are privately made sets, and not issued by the Mints. Neverthless, it is a new variety for collection.

I also saw some such sets being offered for Rs 300 each. The packing was in colours of national tricolour. The name of our Mints was missing.I realized that someone has taken a 5Rs coin, made a booklet for Rs 10 and selling the fake for Rs 300.

We should discourage these fakes being produced by individuals and not authorized by mints

I was told by a very reliable dealer that a similar cellular jail packet was being offered at Rs 10,000 at the Ahmedabad fair last week.

I agree that we should discourage these fakes. But when it was listed, even I did not know anything about these sets. It is only when you purchase something on Ebay, you get to see the contact details of the seller.

The seller is form New Delhi, and he informed me that these sets are being made somewhere in Bangalore. Although I still have to get the coin in my hand, but from the images, the quality seems reasonable.

Since the price looked reasonable, (Rs. 300), I took a chance to purchase it.

Hi friends,

I saw the Cellular jail set being sold online too... here is the link

http://www.numismaticindia.com/details.asp?Uname=proof0128&strItemTyp=3

It does have the mint name (Kolkata) printed on the set.

Thanks,
Harsh

When did mint issue this set? Back in 1997 or is it a recent issue?(Another restrike? ???) I personally don't like the idea of issuing single unc coins for rip off prices..

It would be good if someone can throw some light on the authenticity of this set... it should not be difficult to print an outer cover, even one which says "India Government Mint, Calcutta".

Also, if I remember correctly, Kolkata mint had not started blister-packing in 1997... 1997 Bose set, as well as 1998 Chittranjan Das and 1999 Dnaneshwar were not introduced in blister packing.

Aditya,
I do not see any mention of any mint having issued the set. The top left picture lists it as an issue of the Andaman & Nicobr Administration. So may be a privately ordered set for distribution on some specific occasion. May be not many sets were prepared and were given only to a handful of dignetaries who attended the function.......or even worst, prepared but never issued. Some one thought of making a cool buck. So here they are in the market.

BTW, Rajesh Jain is a pretty straightforward dealer IMHO.

Amit

Now a days, his son, Aditya, is looking after most of the business. Mr. Rajesh Jain specializes in old coins and medals, while Aditya is taking care of all the Modern, Proof, UNC and foreign coins.

Abhay Ji & Aditya

This is further to your discussion on Cellular Jail. I can confirm that coin set on Cellular Jail was indeed issued.

I also vouch for Aditya Jain & his father. I know them for years. They are nice persons and not likely to fleece anyone.

Congrats on receiving Annadurai sets.I also got my Anna 10 days back.

If you check the packet, it does not have Speed Post markings. I checked wid delivery boy and he informed that he is from some private courier. Funnily there is no courier name or consignment number.

In one of our threads on Speed Post, we have concluded that it is safest. I wonder which courier is used by Kolkata mint

Hi friends,

I received the coin sets today. One of my family members who took the delivery said it is First Flight courier.

kansal888

Dear H

I think that private couriers are not permitted to carry currency coins and notes.this used to be printed on back of most courier receipts including First Flight.

These items can be carried out by India Post only.

Wonder if Kolkata has broken the law for First Flight
