I hear that mints are going to commence booking of Unc & Proof coins of Anna shortly. However, I am not aware of exact dates. Alongwith Anna, two others are also in pipeline -60 years of Commonwealth & Homi Bhabha.

Sorry Aditya

Annadurai is not the first tri-lingual coin of India  :'(. This honour goes to Gur Ta Gaddi, where apart from English & Hindi, Gurumukhi is also used.

IDK...Perarignar Anna and Annadurai same person?? :-[ ??? :-\

I thought they are two different person.  ???

Perarignar is most likely a title. Anna is short for Annadurai.

Please check back the source of the article and may be you will find it somewhere. To countercheck, I checked Wiki. No infor on any 'Perarignar Anna'

Another point to note is what I had posted in the other topic earlier " Union Finance Minister Mr Pranab Mukherjee released a commemorative coin of Rs 5/- denomination to mark the  Centenary celebrations of Shri  C N Annadurai, Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at a Function in Chennai on 15 Sep 2009. A set was presented to Sh M Karunanidhi."
This seems to be a picture of the same function.

Amit,

Right on both counts
Perarignar is like a title. It means "great genius" in Tamil. Annadurai was fondly called Anna by the masses. Anna means elder brother.
Even Karundanidhi has a title "Kalaignar". In Tamil Nadu a lot of people simply call him Kalaignar meaning "Scholar" or Dr Kalaignar

Real bummer. Hope of another commemorative went into dumps.

Anyway I would not say that it never came to my mind before posting that both Annadurai and Perarignar Anna might be the same person and I even checked wiki before posting but alas there were no info anywhere relating the two titles.

Here is an RBI press release of 18th Jan.

Its now available on eBay at 7 times its face value. In a few weeks we should be able to pick it up for a small premium or face value locally.

I am attaching scans of the coin before the links disappear. It looks like a Bombay mint mark. Will be interesting to see if the coin is issued by other mints.
