help in identification
« on: May 28, 2017, 08:43:51 PM »
 :help:
Hi Folks
I'd like to submit you a new entry in my collection but is it a token? From where? It seems brass. 22,1 mm. 4,5 gr., smooth edge.
Thanks for any suggestion.
Antonio ;D

I suspect it is "belly money" - i.e. decorative medals used on belly dancers' costumes. See more info in this thread: http://www.worldofcoins.eu/forum/index.php/topic,7620.msg182560.html#msg182560. But I am slightly perplexed by the absence of a hole.

I think you are right; looking better at the edge there are the signs of a suspension ring, demonstrating that it was perhaps a medal. But what does the text mean?

Usually its imaginary text but maybe someone can confirm one way or the other?

I think it is basically garbled, but with luck and a following wind you could possibly interpret Misr (Egypt) from the bottom line. The first line could possibly look like "Sultan" as well?
