Kia Spain launches petition for 2 euro commemorative for Rafael Nadal

Kia Spain has launched a petition to try to convince the Spanish Ministry of Finance to issue a 2 euro commemorative coin for the life and career of tennis player Rafael Nadal. So far 5000 people have signed it. The petition can be viewed here.

I assume there must be some coin collector in a high function at Kia Spain because I can not see any other possible link between a car manufacturer and a possible 2 euro commemorative coin for a tennis player. Although it appears that some well-known Spanish people support the petition, I do not think it will happen regardless of the number of signatures this petition will get. Many countries don't want to depict living people on coins (besides royals) because nobody can guarantee if the person will still be as popular in the future. In my opinion the issuance of coins for sports events is fine but issuing a coin for a specific sporter only can be tricky as it may turn out in the future they have not always competed as fair as everyone thought they did.

I see the logic of your points, but would add that it is good that someone who is interested can find the means to express themselves. Good for democracy. I'd be fine with a denial of the request, as long as the request is welcomed and the denial is well explained in comprehensible language.
