These are the sentences from the legend:

በኢትዮጵያ ማዕድን ሀብት ልማት ኮርፖሬሽን = Ethiopian Mineral Resources Development Corporation.
የአገደ ንቢ ወርቅ ልማት ድርጅት

Many thanks! That helps al lot!!!  :D   I guess the lower line reads Lega Dembi Gold Mines in Amharic.

May I show you a second, older one (EE1959)? Perhaps also from Lega Dembi ...

I guess the lower line reads Lega Dembi Gold Mines in Amharic.

That is also what I initially thought but I believe the last 2 words of the second sentence are "development organisation" so I don't think that is possible.

Auto translaters give the top line as : Ethiopian Mineral Resources Development Corporation

lower line as : Sugarcane bee gold and Development Organization

Thanks! At least a hint of the meaning. Perhaps "sugarcane bee" is a translation of Lega Dembi?

Difficult stuff, but interesting!  ::)    :D

With some delay I have finally found some time to post the reply to your question. After some research I found out that your second token is not a mining token. It depicts the hydroelectric power plant Awash II that is located in Melkassa. It opened in 1966, less than 2 years after construction commenced.

የአዋሽ = Awash
፪ኛ = 2nd
ምረቃ = Completion, opening or inauguration
፲፱፻፶፱ = 1959EE= 1966AD
