National mint releases special ANZAC two dollar coins

Four million specially-designed two-dollar coins have been put into circulation today as part of commemorations for Tuesday’s ANZAC Day.
Opposite the head of Queen Elizabeth II, the coin sports a brightly-coloured mosaic representing the Australian War Memorials, above the Tomb of the Unknown Solider.
Royal Australian Mint CEO Ross MacDiarmid recommended all Australians to collect one of the coins.
“They are a very special reminder of the service, sacrifice, the teamwork, the initiative, and the respect with which we hold our fallen soldiers and which we commemorate on ANZAC Day,” he said.
Minister for Defence Marise Payne said the coins were a fitting tribute to former and current serving men and women.
“Any of us who have visited the Australian War Memorial and seen [the mosaic]… will remember instantly the power and strength with which that beautiful piece of art hits you,” she said.
“It’s now commemorated in a 2017 $2 coin – a very fitting and appropriate recognition.”
