Hello All!

Happy to share a rarity that I recently acquired.

East India Company, Madras Presidency, in name of Alamgir II
AR Double Rupee (Two Rupees)

AH 1172 RY-6 [1807, 1st European-style issue)
Mint name Arkat/Arcot

The Spanish-8-reales under-type can be faintly seen on the reverse side. Edge: grained right. Weight 23.89 g; a satisfactorily-heavy coin in hand.

Thanks Vic! Even though this is a rare denomination--about 150k struck, fewer survive--surprisingly, there are numerous die varieties. AH 1176 must have been a busy year for engravers in Madras  ;D
