Has anyone gotten their ONGC Proof Set from Calcutta Mint yet? I had ordered my set last year and still haven't received it. They don't pick up phone or answer emails. I'm just plain worried coz its close to one year.

Have patience. You are dealing with the Calcutta Mint!!!!!
No 1: It is a Govt of India organization
No 2: It is based in Bengal
Both these are known to be notoriously slow. I was staying at a 5 star Hotel in Calcutta (a government hotel) some months before it was privatised. I had ordered some snacks through room service. One hour after I had ordered, I lost patience and called to check the status of my order. I was told 'It is on the way'. It took the guy about 30 min thereafter to reach my room on the first floor.
BTW Calcutta (or Kolkatta as it is now called) mint order form clearly states that the sets would be ready for delivery after 18 months. Dont worry, you will definately get your sets, but with patience only. I do not book my sets with the IG mint Kolkatta but prefer to pay a small premium to get it from a dealer as soon as they are available in the market. However, for the Mumbai mint, you normally get the sets in a few monts.

Back off man. Calcutta is my hometown although I'm an Assamese now.  ;D

Anyway, I did noticed that the Cal mint is stating an waiting period of 18 months from this year around. I remember when I filled out the form last year, the waiting period was stated 6 months. That's why I'm worried. I thought of checking out the mint whenever I visit Calcutta for any news but never had the time. I searched ebay but couldn't locate any proof set, all the sets sold are UNC; so maybe I'm not the only one. ::)

There was some VVIP set of this issue too..No difference in the quality of the coins, but it was very well packed (does it matter?) and was given to very few collectors immediately after the coin was released. No idea about its issue price and all that.

Aditya,
VVIP sets are distributed during the cerimony to mark the occasion. They are not sold. Unfortunately the invitees are not coin collectors and theese few sets and some undistributed sets are often available in the market at a premium.

I paid a fancy sum for the set. I had no choice since the coin was never officially issued
