That reminds me the Etruscan lead disc that I have seen at the Archaeological Museum of Florence, called "piombo di Magliano"...

I had a colleague at uni who studied Linear A + B. He was obsessed with the Phaistos artefact, convinced that he would be the one to decipher it. Didn't give up until he was in his early fifties.
