Which KM is my German (Bavaria) 1871 Thaler?
« on: March 13, 2017, 11:17:06 PM »
Hello everyone, just have a quick question for you:

I have this Germany (Bavaria) 1871 Thaler that I'm trying to attribute. There are three types for this year, from what I can tell:

KM 886.1 (it's not this one, because the reverse design does not match)
KM 886.2 ("New arabesques under arms")
KM 888 ("J.Reis below truncation")

So, it's either the 886.2 or the 888. I'm wondering if someone here more fluent in Thaler can help me out, as there is a pretty significant difference in price between the two.

Here's the coin (yes, looks like it's survived an old cleaning, but still has lots of detail)

Yours is KM 888.
The first two KM numbers both have C.Voigt below truncation, the difference between them being only the arabesques.

Nice coin. Not sure about the cleaning story. The lines look like it's been shaken around in the drawer of a collector's cabinet.

Andrey,

Would you mind explaining the differences in the arabesques under the coat of arms for me?

(My digital version of Krause does not have very clear images of the coins)

Thank you

This one is KM 886.1
Yours (new type) corresponds to both KM 886.2 and KM 888.
