2016 P Jefferson Nickel - Die variety/error
« on: February 24, 2017, 05:19:27 AM »
Has anyone seen or reported any die varieties in 2016 P Nickels? This one on the right seems to have a 'fat' 6 to me.

Hard to say from the pic. It could just be wear, the light or the different scale of the pictures, but it is possible. Try measuring, as Globetrotter does or a transparent overlay like <k> has shown.

Hi,

I've tried to make the date images equal, look at the last attachment, it looks like CameronK is right, but I'll ask one my variant friends in the US, who's finding many variants for himself and for me, just see the last 3 variants I got in the attachments.

Ole

If you're interested in coin variants please find some English documentation here:
https://sites.google.com/site/coinvarietiescollection/home
and in French on Michel's site (the presentations are not the same):

Caution. The low-hanging fruits are still there maybe for a reason.

Nicely done diagrams, Ole!  :)
Since the US 2016 5c had the date on the master die, and would be the same on all dies. I suspect the differences seen are due to wear on the die or the coin.

Agreed. The different width in the figures is compensated by the different size of the reflecting parts. Thank you, Ole.
