1723 'SSC' Sixpence?
« on: February 15, 2017, 03:07:15 PM »
Hi all!

So I've been offered a Silver George I 1723 'SSC' Sixpence that seems in VF maybe EF condition for 27, its part of a job lot of Sixpence coins which are mainly 20th century.

I've enclosed two photos of the coin in question.

The reason I'm posting this here is I'm unsure if the coins is real or just a good museum copy?

I asked the seller could she take the coin out of its cardboard holder & let me know if the edges are milled or smooth & she has said that they are smooth - dose that mean then that its a museum copy??

Thanks :)

The "S" beside the crown looks wrong, too small & squeezed in.  The rims also seem suspicious to me, I personally would avoid it.  The "N" in BRVN is also weird. Then again it is not in my field of collecting :) I am just going on images from a google search.

I also get a negative feeling, mainly based on the portrait side. Both the toning and the portrait ring a "typical china copy" alarm in my head. Would not buy this without seeing it in hand.

Edge should be diagonally milled not smooth.

Many thanks everyone, I've chosen to stay well clear of this coin. :)
