According to the Dutch coin dealer Eurocoinhouse the Netherlands will this year issue a 10 euro collectors coin in silver-plated copper-nickel and 20 euro and 50 euro collectors coins in gold to commemorate the 50th anniversary of HRH King Willem-Alexander.

The Dutch mint has issued silver plated €5 and €10 collector coins before (surcharged coins were pure silver). Wonder what different they are going to do now? Go to plain copper nickel instead of silver plating?

All 10 euro coins that were issued in the past were made out of pure silver. That is why the alloy is not yet known. It may very well be silver plated.

I think some of the recent issues of €10 (in fact the only issue of 2013: Coronation of the King Willem-Alexander) was not pure silver but silver plated copper-nickel (The circulation strike in card as well as the numbered BU cards)? Proof was pure silver. Earlier issues were pure silver, as you pointed out.

You are both right indeed. I had completely forgotten about the 10 euro coin that was issued for the coronation. I have amended the first message of this topic.

Any idea why did KNM stop the €10 collector coins' series after 2013? I remember getting my €10 of 2013 for €7.5 or so... :)

10 euro coins in silver and 20 euro and 50 euro coins in gold are specifically reserved for royal themes. This is not a series. If there is no royal commemoration (anniversary, wedding, coronation etc.) the denominations are not being used in combination with the mentioned alloys.

Clearer image below. Design by Persijn Broersen and Margrit Lukács who earlier designed the inauguration 10 euro and the pictorial art 5 euro coin.

About the design:

The design was based on HRH King Willem-Alexander's motto: "Encourage, represent and bring people together". Words that, together with the water management, are traditionally embedded in the Dutch culture, can be seen in the design.

The sailor's knot on the coin symbolises connection, because shipping enabled the exploration of the unknown and combined the old and the new. The ribbons are inspired on the reliefs of the Royal Palace of Amsterdam, where different elements connect to each other. The portrait was derived from the 10 euro coin that was issued in 2013 for the inauguration.

It is the first time that a design on a Dutch coin continues on the rim.
