Well, as I am sure you will understand the confirmation that Gibraltar is going to issue such 12-sided 1 pound coin was already in at the time I posted first about it on here. I expect to be provided information on new Gibraltar circulating coins tomorrow, and hopefully there is also some news between it on the Gibraltar 12-sided pound coin.

In general over the course of the last year or so I have been receiving quite a few questions from people who were wondering to what extend the information posted by me on the new 2017 and 2018 coin series is correct. This because of the almost complete lack of communication from the Gibraltar Government and the very long time it takes before the coins are actually being issued. And although I understand that of course people should also understand that I have no influence in that regard. Unfortunately this is a combination of a very amateuristic government working with a very amateuristic mint. All information posted on the forum was provided to me by the Government of Gibraltar.

There will be a series of 1 penny up until 2 pounds, the coins will have a very boring design namely the coat of arms of the Government of Gibraltar with the inscription "Fiftieth  anniversary of the referendum". As expected the 1 pound coin in this 2017-dated series will still be round.

The 1 penny coin will be minted at Pobjoy Mint, the other denominations at Tower Mint.

All the coins will have the same design?  That is indeed boring.  Having said that, I always thought Jersey’s pre-1982 coins always looked quite neat and uniformed, particularly when in sets.

Yes unfortunately same design for all coins. The 1p and 2p will apparently be reintroduced. The portrait that will be used may have changed in the meantime. Only the lettering on the obverse is so far known: ELIZABETH II D G REGINA GIBRALTAR 2017

The Latin baffles me.  I don’t think any country/territory has changed to it after previously using English.  Canada still uses some Latin but others (except the UK) ditched it long ago.

Not so.  The £1 coin above has the PM mintmark and batch letters "AA".

Correct. The information in my message as quoted by you was obtained directly from the Pobjoy Mint. Therefore no blame on me.

The 50 pence coin in this series is out now, it was apparently also produced at the Pobjoy Mint.

So, it's THAT sort of commemorative set.

Malta, 1982, reverses.  Tenth anniversary of decimalisation.

Yes, it is not a circulation set but a circulating commemorative set.
In recent years, Brunei and Australia have issued similar sets.
Typically, these are one year strikes.
These are not repeated but in future years, the circulation coins will revert to old design.

In this case however Gibraltar will issue a newly designed 2018-dated standard circulating coin series. They will not revert to the old designs.
