Kiribati: royal rejection

Royal Mint artist Michael Hibbit created these two designs.

They commemorated the marriage of Prince Charles to Lady Diana Spencer in 1981.

I agree on his two criticisms, but I think a solution with the feathers and Spencer arms apart would have been possible, so I also agree with your remark:

The gold coin with the portrait was actually issued.

It appears that the production process was too advanced to make any changes.

Anyway, HRH was clearly more concerned about the inclusion of the Spencer arms on the lower denomination.

As for the portrait I do not know but he was right that the Spencer arms on top of the feathers looks very bad.
