Here’s an ancient overstrike of mine with an interesting backstory:
A large percentage of the Afghan civic coppers are of course overstruck on earlier issues, sometimes several times, but here are two more overstruck on 'foreign' coins:1880 Kandhar issue (Valentine 91) overstruck on 1877 falus of Kalat (Valentine 6-11).c.1890(?) Kandahar issue overstruck on 1858 East India Company 1/4 annaAlan
Russia again - 10 Kopeks 1762 over 5 Kopeks (1758-1762)
That's nice Afrasi, and to be able to identify the host coin to date level. The African coin must have been pretty special...
I mentioned I had some of these overstrikes from Sweden - here they are. All are 1 öre kopparmynt from Ulrika Eleonora or Fredrik's reigns, overstruck on emergency dalers of the 1718-1720 period.
The undertype is a crudely struck piece on copper sheet, with just the inscriptions 'Muhammad Khan' and 'Fulus struck in Kalat', see first coin below. The overtype has the peacock left in the loop of 'Kandahar' with the reverse 'fulus' in a lobed lozenge, see the second coin (which is itself actually overstruck on an earlier Afghan copper).Alan
