Hello! I found this piece on an auction site recently. I have a couple of questions. I'd like someone's opinion of the grade. I'd call it 'good' but I'd like to know others opinions.

Also, I've seen references to a Large 4, Small 4 and various portrait varieties. Can anyone recommend a resource for reading more about the varieties?

Thanks!

I think you discovered a black hole: there is no specialised publication of Haitian coins I am aware of. Start one today :)

Personally, I would grade this coin at vg+. The silhouet is almost complete and there is some detail of the deeper parts of the face left. Many Haitian coins are in a bad state, due to a hot and moist climate and sweaty hands, but I'd still be tempted to wait for a coin in a better state if it would be affordable.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Thank you for the opinion. I have a few projects set aside for my retirement years, maybe I'll do that!
