According to the document below, dated July 6, 2009, Monaco this year will be issuing 143,326 coins of 2 Euro. On several other forums there also is talk of a 2009 Monaco coinset, but the document has no information at all regarding this.

a3v1,
This is a regular issue,If I'm not wrong. So,will it be issued for face value or available only in coin cards/sets only?

Aditya,
According to the information I gathered this coin indeed will be issued at face value. Which does not automatically imply that it will be found circulating. It is to be feared that these coins all will be picked up as soon as they are issued, and the coin traders will be making big business with this issue.

One dealer who I regularly buy from (in Germany) now offers them at a "subscription" price - since the coin is not available yet - of about €45 per piece (unc). Call me crazy but I signed up this time ...

Christian

Bimat

aahhhh....I'm willing to add one example of both 1 and 2 Euro of these 3 non EU countries.I think I should stop dreaming now ::)

Well, there is hope. Remember this http://www.worldofcoins.eu/forum/index.php/topic,3707.0.html topic? If the Council of the European Union agrees to the Commission proposal, there may "soon" be more coins from Monaco. So if you're not in a hurry, wait and see what the Council says. You can still buy this piece (or another one from MC) later ...

Christian

Bimat

Difficult to believe that increased mintage will really help to bring down the prices. ::)

According to this blog, the government in Monaco has confirmed the increased volume: "(...) the total mintage of the 2 euros coin 2009 will be 250.000 coins.  143.326 coins will be issued in 2009.  For the remaining 106.674 coins, the date of issuance has not been determined yet." Well, a blog is not a gov't bulletin, so a little skepticism may be appropriate, but things are getting interesting. :)

Monaco government is probably an oxymoron. ;)

I find the information confusing. Does it mean that rather than issuing say 125 000 coins per year, they'll issue 250 000 coins with the same date over two years?

Peter

Guess it means "the rest of the pieces will come but not right away". Maybe they can get it done this year, maybe a little later. Pretty normal, I think - the year that appears on a coin is not necessarily the production date anyway. Certainly not in Austria and Germany ...

Peter,
Monaco does have its own government, even though Prince Albert II is the ruling Monegasque monarch.

Have a read here; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitution_of_Monaco .

I need (at-least) one coin of each denomination (1 and 2 Euro only) to represent Monaco in my Euro collection, neither date matters, nor the grade.(practically,it's impossible to find a circulated Monegasque Euro coin). This news is certainly a ray of hope for poor collectors (like me ;D)

And as expected, the prices have come down drastically. It's possible to get the 2009 piece below €10 now 8) Time to check E-bay regularly ;D

Yeah, I paid too much, rub it in. ;D  While I rarely use eBay, it sure is good to know that the street price of that coin is coming closer to the face value ...

Christian

a3v1

Same here! I, too, have paid too much though not as much as Christian did. The price I paid was € 28.
On the other hand I can pride myself of having this coin in my collection for several months now.
