Not seen these designs anywhere else yet, it's a bit of a scoop for this forum!

A bit restrained of the Royal Mint to "only" go with two £2 commemoratives and one 50p.  Mind you, doesn't really mean much as they'll probably issue others throughout the year, as they did with Beatrix Potter.

I think this is the first time in quite a number of years that the Mint hasn't released the new designs before the end of the previous year.  In the last few years they've even been available in December.  Presumably they didn't want to issue the new £1 in sets before January.

High quality images of the 5 pounds coins. For people who have not been following this thread, the designs of the circulating commemoratives can be found here.

The Canute design: not quite a stick man, but not far off. It's usually certain Continental countries who produce simplistic designs like that. It's almost bad enough to be a Matt Dent design.   :-X

It's not unknown for the mint to surprise us with additional coins not in the sets,
the team GB 50p was one recent example....
always willing to trade modern UK coins for modern coins from elsewhere....

For people who are planning to order, the following discount codes are valid:

FREE gives free postage on every purchase. Only valid if the delivery address is within the UK.
DSC101 Only works for certain products but gives 10% discount and free postage to addresses within the UK.

To use these codes, there is no need to order for a minimum amount, even although the Royal Mint website may indicate otherwise.

Just tried the DSC100 on the £55 Mint set and doesn't appear to work on that one.

The Royal Mint is going to issue 2 different collectors coins for the Sapphire Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II next week. The 5 pounds coin can be seen below. It was designed by Glyn Davies who said the following about her design:

“I drew inspiration from the regalia associated with The Queen’s coronation. I’ve rotated the crown to make a feature of the Stuart sapphire. I have also included a quotation from Her Majesty’s 21st birthday speech, which makes the design more personal.”

Bishop Gregory Cameron designed the other coin which features the royal coat of arms.

Exclusive: In 2017 there will be 4 new issues in the series of Beatrix Potter 50p coins, the new issues will only be issued in sets and will not be issued for circulation. Three of the new characters that will be featured on the coins are Tom Kitten, Benjamin Bunny and Mr. Jeremy Fisher. The new pieces will be issued in April.

Allegedly -but this is not confirmed- there will also be Winnie the Pooh 50p coins in 2017.

Would have liked to buy the Austen and Newton coins (like the designs), as well as the new £1 piece, at the World Money Fair - the Royal Mint had a booth and sold them there. Except that single pieces were not available yet; all they had was the annual sets.
