British Virgin Islands
« on: October 03, 2016, 06:05:08 PM »
In recent years several "coins" have turned up that claim to have been issued by the British Virgin Islands. None of the pieces in this topic has been authorized by the authorities on the British Virgin Islands which means that they are not legal tender. The designs on the pieces are crude and the pieces seem to originate from China. Pobjoy Mint is the sole producer of coins for the British Virgin Islands. The authorities on the British Virgin Islands are investigating these fantasies to find out by who they were made.

Novosibirsk Zoo Series

Since 2014, the Novosibirsk Zoo in Russia has been selling fantasy pieces of the British Virgin Islands as keepsakes to visitors. Every piece depicts a different animal. They are planning to issue a total of 20 fantasy pieces. The obverse shows the fourth effigy of HM Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley while the reverse depicts various animals designed by Vladimir Kolbin.

2014: Liger, Snow Leopard and Polar Bear.
2015: Liger, Tiger, Meerkats, Lion, Jaguar and Orangutan.
2016: Dolphin, Long-Eared Hegehog, Swans, Brown Bear and Grousen.
2017: Humboldt Penguin.

Note: The Liger piece was both issued with dates 2014 and 2015.

Obverse of the pieces (of course each year with a different date):
