Fran├žois Rude isn't rude but a French artist who is responsible for a large part of the decorations on the Arc de Triomphe, a Paris tourist attraction and the wildest traffic point in the French capital. The reverse shows part of this decoration: a winged Marianne leading the French into combat. The coin was a circulating commemorative in a series of seven, based on the 10 francs 1974-1987. Its designer is Jean-Pierre Gendis. The coin was withdrawn on 31st October 1991, as a new, bi-metallic type of 10 franc coin had been introduced.
