UK, WWF-themed 50p, 2011.  Design by Matthew Dent

So who designed this Austrian 3 euro?  ::)

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Although the official issue date of 'Tiger' coin was (is) tomorrow i.e. February 22, the coin was actually issued yesterday. The Austrian mint started dispatching coins of those customers who could place their order online today...

A long line in front of the mint building in Vienna where people waited patiently, in the rain, to get in and buy one of these. https://kurier.at/wirtschaft/ansturm-auf-muenze-oesterreich/248.012.067

Six hundred people in the line, one third of them did not get the coin. :-\  The article also mentions the criticism with regard to the mint's policy - the combination of a low issue price and a low volume "supports" dealers and platforms such as eBay. But the mint does not plan to modify the current issue plan.

I am glad that I don't really collect those euro collector coins any more ...

There's surely some problem with distribution techniques of the Austrian mint. An Austrian seller has sold a few hundred (if not less) of pieces of this tiger coin on eBay, for an average price of €65 per coin. Agreed that this series is quite popular among collectors, but the mintage of 50,000 is not small either. Many other euro circulation/collector coins have a similar or even less mintage than this and yet they are easily available. Ultimately, an ordinary collector suffers while the dealers cash in the opportunity! ::)

The third coin in the €3 "Glow in Dark" Series (Crocodile) was issued yesterday and guess what...it was sold out within two hours on Austrian mint's website! It was a pre-sale and actual delivery will start on June 7. Austrian mint on its Facebook page said that there are thousands of collectors who are trying to log in and buy it and their servers are unable to handle this much of traffic. Needless to say, mint witnessed heavy criticism... ;)

Issue Price was €9.90 (including 20% VAT) like previous issues, with restriction of 3 coins per customer.

Needless to say, mint witnessed heavy criticism... ;)

... also because in its infinite wisdom the Austrian Mint decided to offer two extremely popular products (this one, and the silver-niobium piece) on the very same day. Hint: Don't.

Here's the next coin in the series, commemorating Kigfisher, to be issued on September 6th. Austrian mint on its website says that only limited number of coins will be put on sale online so it might get sold out quickly (like previous times)...

The Kingfisher coin is also sold out now, just within few hours after its release on Austrian Mint's website. The website was inaccessible since morning as thousands of collectors were trying to log-in. ::)

Here's the seventh coin in the series, commemorating Shark. I don't know the exact issue date, but it should be available my May end/June first week...

Mintage same as earlier issues i.e. 50,000.

Officially it has the same issue date as the silver-niobium twenty-fiver: 6.6. Or 6/6 - works either way. :)

The 'shark' coin was issued on June 6th...and was sold out within hours, as expected. Here's a photo from heumarkt, shared by Austrian mint on their FB page. People patiently waiting for their turn to come, but most of them remained empty handed. :(

I understand that limit per customer was further reduced this time: Only one coin per buyer!
