Parent topic:  Milestones in the coinage of the Netherlands Antilles

The parent topic (above) gives an overview of the coinage of the Netherlands Antilles. Please post any comments, questions or corrections here.

Early comment, you can delete this if you wish, Niels: GOD ZIJ MET ONS is an archaic subjunctive use of the verb zijn. Therefore, the motto should be translated as "may god be with us". In indicative mood, the motto would be GOD IS MET ONS (God is with us.)

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

An octagonal gold coin of 1977, depicting Peter Stuyvesant. Outside the Dutchosphere, he is probably most associated with cigarettes.  :-X

Don't worry, the statue is alive and well. It is seen here (peg-leg and all) in the WIC headquarters in Amsterdam, waging an anti-smoking campaign. :)

Excellent photo.  :D  It's hard to say who is the more lifelike.  >:D  And it does make you wonder what statues get up to, after we've all gone to bed.  :-\
