What is the date? China Kwangtung 20 Cents
« on: May 04, 2016, 02:51:07 AM »
This is a China, Kwangtung province, 20 cent coin. It is Y# 423 (1912-1924).

Can anyone tell me from my crappy scan which specific year?

This 2 Hao silver coin from Guangdong Province shows year 9 of the Republic, = 1920.

Thanks!
Even after collecting for as long as I have, coins from China still give me problems. Albania too come to think of it as well as older Korea and Vietnam.
Many older Arabic type coins do too although I can usually tell the dates on those. Older Indian coins...forget it as I don't have a clue where to start.

One of the great things about WoC is the knowledge available here.
What someone can tell me off the top of their head could likely take me an hour or more and still not be confident of my conclusion.

I find the table at the front of KM with different numeral systems very useful. Standard Chinese and Arabic numbers I encounter often enough to have memorised them, but with less common systems my first port of call is that table.

It is useful but I often use images of numerals found online. Those I can make big enough to really see well  :)
