The Royal Mint appealed against the decision of the Trademark Tribunal and so the case ended up before the High Court of Justice. A new hearing was held in February and early last month it became clear that The Royal Mint lost the case (for the second time). In my opinion the only right decision.

Never too late to learn..

During the court case before the Trademark Tribunal between The Royal Mint and the Commonwealth Mint, The Royal Mint remarked that Tristan da Cunha did not follow its own legal processes correctly as the issuance of coins was not being published in the Gazette. For the first time exactly that has now happened in the Gazette (of Saint Helena) see here.

Furthermore since 2006 Tristan da Cunha still only had 'TDC' on its coins, that decision has been reversed and from 2017 all of its coins will again depict its name in full.

Instead of publishing Orders for every new coin, the Tristan da Cunha government decided to omit this obligation from its commemorative coinage ordinance, see here ::) I guess that given the amount of coins they issue each year, they realized it would be too much work to do so.

Some background information about the coins of Tristan da Cunha was in June published here.
