Came across this....

If this is legit, then it appears the Isle of Man Treasury have had a falling out with the Royal Mint ???

Notice the last line ??

QuoteAny future change to the specification for United Kingdom circulating coins will also be reflected in Isle of Man circulating coins (unless a change is decided by the Treasury)

I thought it was the Pobjoy Mint who produced their coinage. In any case, it may be a legal requirement that it is put to tender, in order to find the most advantageous price.

It would be very interesting if The Royal Mint wins this tender, than after many years we will finally again be able to know the names of the designers of their coins. Though I guess Pobjoy Mint doesn't want to lose their client.

Or maybe it would just be the artist currently known as The Royal Mint Engraving Team, who design this coin:

2009 Robert Burns £2.

So each team member did a letter each, supposedly. I did once also see the artwork on Matt Bonaccorsi's site, though, so maybe he thinks he did it all by himself.

DOH!
Yup, silly me, the RM don't do IOM.

Ok then.. maybe it's because they WANT the RM to do their coins
(on account of the new £1 coming soon that Pobjoy won't be able to provide)
Although if this case the case why they didn't approach the RM directly.

The tender looks OK. I am not familiar with the form, but the information provided looks way too scant for a tender. Under EU rules, a tender in all EU countries would be obligatory for purchases of this size, but I am not sure the Isle of Man is covered by EU rules. However, the Isle of Man is most likely covered by the WTO government procurement rules. As long as they and the current mint jump through the (pretty wide) hoops of the WTO (notably by pretending other mints have an equal chance), they can continue with Pobjoy.

5 mints have bid on this tender.

This was a misunderstanding between me and the IoM government. 5 mints expressed their interest while only 3 submitted a bid.
