The media have been agitating for a woman to have a place on it - I forget who though.

Here are images of the new $5 note to be released in September from RBA The Queen's image remains.

Note the 16 in the fictitious serial number denotes 2016

...God save the Queen!

Not yet but apparently the Reserve bank is distributing the new $5 notes to all the banks starting from 1st September.

Notice the two little pimples these are for the blind to distinguish the value of the note.

...and from the Reserve Bank:

To coincide with the issuance of the next generation of Australian banknotes, the Reserve Bank of Australia will to offer two commemorative products to the public:

·        a ‘Next Generation of $5’ commemorative folder containing one new $5 banknote at a recommended retail price (RRP) of $10.95

·        a ‘Two Generations of $5’ commemorative folder containing one first polymer $5 banknote and one new $5 banknote at a recommended retail price of RRP of $19.50.

Both folders contain standard uncirculated banknotes only. The commemorative products will be available for purchase at Australia Post outlets.

Further information about the new banknotes can be found on our website (www.banknotes.rba.gov.au).

I have the new $5 note and its interesting to see that my PC scanner program has a block in place to prevent copying of the new notes.

See attached message. ...when you click the Information button you get a forbidden access message so its a complete waste of time!

However there are always ways and means...

I hadn't realised there is a large perfectly clear panel near the centre of the note.

Just checked with black light and a few security features showed; a bird with a spray of red flowers on the front and on the reverse the serial number and a date 2016

Incredible! How does the program detect that the paper placed under it is a banknote? ???

This is the first time its occurred and I have scanned hundreds of notes with this program so it must one of the many new features built into the note to prevent counterfeiting.

I have no problem on my Scanner and printer. It is a 2011 model, so maybe it doesn't have the software.

My scanner is even older as I bought it in 2009 however the program has been updated a couple of times.
