A rich, heavy, stodgy Christmas pudding.   :-X  I wonder how many heart attacks those things are responsible for.

Gibraltar will also issue a 2016-dated Christmas coin. They will use the design that they also used on the 2006 coin which depicts a christmas tree. The coin will be available in February.

Gibraltar does this kind of 'recycling of designs' frequently, see here. ;)

Caution. The low-hanging fruits are still there maybe for a reason.

February 19 but the Christmas coins of Gibraltar have not yet been issued. I wonder why Tower Mint bid on the currency tender of the Isle of Man if they can't even handle such small orders for Christmas coins (last year they were also issued months after Christmas).

Is that a proof version? Looks like a proof.

It is just UNC. If coins are being minted on a slow old press they may get this proof appearance. No proof or prooflike coins will be minted of this coin.

I have to get back to this message. I was today informed  that plans to mint prooflike Christmas 50p coins are still under consideration. If it will happen, these will be issued within 1 month. The piece in the photo above is of UNC quality.

The Gibraltar Christmas 50p coin is out.  Santa on the reverse, but what is of more interest is the obverse, which carries “D G Regina” in the inscription.   I don’t think that’s happened with Gibraltar coins before has it?  Certainly not the 1988 and after circulation issues.

I've ordered this one and also got the Falkland Islands penguin coin which is really nice. Pobjoy definitely have better quality control than Tower mint!

You are correct Alan - as far as I can tell from my perusings through Google and Krause SCWC, I think the last time D.G.REGINA appeared was on the 1967-1970 Castle and Key crown that was issued (which always reminded me of Canadian coins as it was the same legends and layout/font etc. as used on those coins albeit minus the beading around the edge).

The Santa is of course reused from 1992 - last years was reused too - have they run out of designs?
