Browsing for something else i encountered a recent research article by Francisco Palomares Bueno from the Spanish Revista Numismatica (article in English). It is focused on subtyping the Samanta Deva Bull & Horseman Jitals based on different design characteristics. The article can be found here.
This article may be of interest to people with a more in-depth interest in the B&H Jitals. Personally, i am not convinced that the stylistic subtyping, that the author uses, can reliably differentiate between different mints and stages of evolution of this coin type. Also the text explanation is not to convincing, which might partly be explained by the translation from Spanish to English.  But the author has to be complimented on his thoroughness, illustrated with nice macro-photos of details on the coins.

As a side-note to the above: Part of THE standard work on these coins, Monica & Robert Tye's "Jitals", has also become publicly available on Academia.edu recently. Look here. The line drawings of the type catalog are now freely available through the link above (may require Academia.edu registration). Apart from a catalog of Jitals the paper book in addition has very expertly written paragraphs on historic events, metrology, and economic and monetary politics of the time. This work can be recommended to anyone with a more than casual interest in the subject.

Some interesting freebies there, surprised to see parts of M&R's Jitals book freely available as the book is only 20 years old.
The article by Francisco Palomares Bueno is also a good read but I feel some of the 'differences' can perhaps be put down as die engravers fancies rather than actual different types which we see in all the different hand struck series

That is such a welcomed addition!  I no longer have space for physical books and any digital edition, especially when it is free, is highly appreciated.  Kudos to Rob!  That article seems very interesting and now I have something to read this weekend.  Thanks for the links...

Glad you like it !
It is good to see that individuals are still wanting to share new research in this manner. The availability of the line drawings from Tye will be welcomed by many more collectors i think, though actually i prefer the paper book for browsing and the additional background paragraphs.
