Akbar dam, mint Jaunpur Abu al fateh type
« on: December 09, 2015, 07:35:15 AM »
Hi all,
This is again a very rare coin among the copper coins of Akbar.. It seems to be a very early issue of the emperor from this mint. The condition of this coin is eye soothing and is in pink of it's health.
The coin also has duel 'laqab' for Akbar. One side has his full name and other laqab of his father 'Nasiruddin' Humayun
Obverse- Nasir al duniya wa al din Abu al fateh, falus zarb Jaunpur
Reverse- Jalal al din Muhammad Akbar badshah ghazi with cross as mint mark

So much of the Sultanate style is still evident in the  engraving I would never expect it to be Mughal

Hi,
Thanks Bernard sir.. It is the first posted on this forum. But the type is a known albeit very rare variety and probably a one year issue. Other examples of this rare variety shows a date of 966AH. Jaunpur as a copper mint is rather special with lot of varieties.
@ Victor sir, The early Akbar issues do have Suri touch and why not, after all they employed the same die makers and mint workers.
