Jahangir AE Dam, Overstruck on Suri coin. Jahangiri couplate ,Agra Mint

Hi,
Attaching a Jahangir Dam, over-struck on a Suri coin. Instead of having the more common Rawani couplate, this one have Jahangiri on obverse. Reverse is the mint and date (AH 1023?). In the obverse, "al  amir" legand of Suri is clearly visible.
Weight 20.40 gm. I think this is KM# 126.1B

These are interesting because they show how the new regime couldn't wait to produce coins and didn't bother to melt down the previous rulers coins but simply overstruck them. Here is one of mine of agra mint

But this regime is not a new one  at that point. 50 years of Akbar's rule have happened in between. After all the coppers of Akbar, was there  shortage of copper at the time of Jahangir?

I think it was more about saving on the minting cost.

These overstruck coins are not due to stortage of time. The coins of Jahangir overstruck on suri coins occurs through ry6,7 and 8.. Perhaps as Amit ji (asm) pointed out was due to efforts to save minting cost or sudden demand for copper coins. We must study the political and social condition during the said regnal years to get to the bottom of this mystery

in febr. 2012, Oesho wrote : "…..it also shows that these ‘rawani’ issues were most probably all over struck old Suri dams, which possibly had accumulated in the Agra treasure at that time."
