RIDE THE ALL STEEL RALEIGH with an image of a bicycle on the reverse. steel 22.8mm

I had one of these when I was fifteen but mine was the Trent Sports model. I rode six miles to school and six miles home again every day.

Nice token!  :)  I had a Raleigh 'Superbe'--quality frame, very smooth and pretty durable too.

Figleaf

With all respect for your age, this ad token may be a bit older than you are. I hope your bicycles had lights and a cover around, or at least on top of the chain to protect your precious trousers - as my grandmother liked to put it when I'd hurt myself: you will heal by yourself, but I must repair your clothes.

The handlebar is quite low. This looks like a racing bike, in spite of the heavy tires.

My Raleigh had a dynamo fitted for lighting and also 2 stop lights! they must have been off a battery.

...but no chain guard, I wore bicycle clips on my trousers.

I got this as an Xmas gift for my neighbour.  It was supplied by a very nice chap in the UK  8)

I think your pedals are on the other side!
And distance between mudguards and wheels.
And angle of light holder.

I remember the one in the image they were always a dark green and rather expensive but very reliable.

I noticed the light holder was different.

Don't remember ever seeing one like that with the cross frame.

Not quite the Raleigh green that I remember either but close.

I had the 1980s equivalent - a 3 speed Raleigh - which I used to cycle 12 miles each way to school. Believe it or not, that was the quickest way of getting there apart from driving door to door, which wasn't an option.
