Hello Everyone,

A new book 'Standard Catalogue of Coins of British India 1835-1947 currency Issues' is launched claiming to have in depth information and details in the form of images of BI coins. Can someone please advice on is it worth to have it in your bookshelf besides Uniform Coinage book ? Also does this new book covers princely state coins of BI?

Thanks,
SGM

Mr Dileep Rajgor is considered an authority on Indian coins. The earlier version of Krause's India catalog was compiled by him, so I would think that one should get this book.
Any idea if this is available for shipping to US?

That is the general perception. He also runs a grading house. Considering the errors in his own Auction catalogues, I now doubt his capabilities.

Where did you get this information?

Since he is into this business, I think he should not have any issues, if one is prepared to pay the postage. It may be available with some dealers in the US.

Above all this, my information is that the book is by Gev Kias............

He may have been one of the several contributors but he definitely did not 'compile' it alone.

Doesn't he also sell the coins which are graded by his grading company? (If I remember correctly). A serious case of conflict of interest...

Krause publishes book which are edited by a professional editor, who is an employee of the company. He/ She collects contributions from several contributors ( who could be upto 200 in number ) and all of them are acknowledged in the book. Some of the contributors get special mention as Special Contributors.

Yes! Even my name name appeared (in 2011 edition I guess) as a contributor as I used to send them information about new Indian issues / notified several errors in India section... :)

I have heard that there are serious questions raised on his grading of coins. Same coin sent twice was graded differently......... and in one case, I have heard, he has also given a written apology for a wrong grading............. If this is not incompetence........I do not know what is.

Amit

PS: I do not question his knowledge (he sure has proficiency in a few fields of numismatics) but the use (or misuse) of it is what I am questioning.

To err is human.
Especially in age of rapid technological advancement.

Dilip graded a forgery once.
He is more cautious now.
